Parents’ Port Campbell safety concerns after men approach children in van with fake number plates

Families visiting the Surf Coast are being encouraged to speak with their kids about stranger danger after an incident involving a van with fake numberplates.

Missing children: what does "missing" actually mean?

Port Campbell parents are being urged to remind their children about “stranger danger”, after a woman reported the suspicious behaviour of two men.

The mother was parked in her car watching her two children walk down Morris St when a white camper van pulled up.

Two men got out, the woman said, and began approaching the children.

When they noticed the mother in the car, they went back to their van, telling her they were worried about the kids’ “welfare”.

The woman reported the van’s number plate to police.

Port Campbell police confirmed the registration was fake but said there had been “Chinese whispers” going around the town regarding the incident.

They encouraged parents to regularly speak to their children about the dangers of talking with strangers.

Anyone with concerns should contact the Port Campbell Police on 03 5598 6310.
