Jason Stokes in court after allegedly violently attacking, choking 60-year-old woman

A former groundskeeper has been described as an animal after he allegedly violently choked and brutally bashed a 60-year-old woman.

A Warrnambool groundskeeper has been described as an “animal” after he allegedly violently choked and brutally bashed a 60-year-old woman over a fake tattoo.

Jason Stokes appeared before the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Friday from custody for a summary jurisdiction application.

The court heard Mr Stokes brutally bashed a 60-year-old woman on two occasions.

During one incident Mr Stokes allegedly pinned the woman down on a bed and repeatedly hit the woman causing her dentures to lodge in her throat.

The attack allegedly lasted for five to ten minutes.

He then allegedly choked her and bit her forehead until “blood spurted out”.

The court was told police believed Mr Stokes attacked the woman after she showed him a fake tattoo.

The woman thought she was “going to take her last breath”, the court heard.

She was treated in hospital for several fractures to her face and hand and was left with two black eyes.

The police prosecutor described the incident as “inexplicable” and involving a “peculiar level of savagery”.

He also described Mr Stokes, who worked as a groundskeeper at the Warrnambool Racecourse, as “behaving like an animal”.

Mr Stokes, who is facing charges of recklessly causing serious injury and common law assault, applied to keep his matters in the Magistrates Court.

His application was denied and he will next appear before the County Court on February 17 for a plea date.
