The Giant Kite Flying Display has returned for another year in Warrnambool, where families have gathered to experience soaring colours through the sky.
The popular event, organised by Kites for Kids in Melbourne and put on by Warrnambool Council, was held from 1pm on Wednesday with strong winds making it a suitable day for kite flying.
A council spokesperson said the display had been running for three years.
“It’s a free activity that we put on for the community and tourists while they’re here in town and we like to embrace the natural environment and we do get some windy days in Warrnambool, so it’s good to be able to utilize the natural environment and get people outside,” the spokesperson said.
“It’s a fun, healthy activity to do. We have had perfect conditions and a good turnout — I think we have had over 1200 people here today.”
The display featured many different kites including a large colourful bird, wolves, cars and marine life.
Children with regular sized kites also got to enjoy the windy day flying theirs, watching them glide across the field at Price St.
Tristan, 10, said it was “really exciting” to fly his kite.
Chelsea, 7, said she “really likes flying the kites”.
