With more than 200 wins as a jockey Casey Bruce decided to take to the field and MC the fashions at Warrnambool’s races on Thursday.
Dressed in faux furs and feathering she said the judges had a difficult job picking winners in the five categories.
But it was Elize Icke and her outfit designed by Lainie Brookman Couture in Geelong that saw her take out the lady of the day.
Judging panel and previous race day fashion contenders Jasmin Fitzgerald, Kelly Carty and milliner designer Irene Moore said the competition was tough this year.
“I have seen a lot of faux fur, a lot of feathering ... it’s up to our judges to break them down — I don’t envy them,” Casey said.
Sovereign Resort most spectacular hat went to Doras Jovic and runner-up Melanie Wade.
Miss Kits fashions on the field contemporary lady was awarded to Leanora Romensky and runner-up Brittney Berger.
Meanwhile Fenella Barker was named Warrnambool Eyecare’s traditional lady.
Clancy’s Menswear dapper chap winner was first time contender Kurt Sivoir from Adelaide Hills who was pushed to enter by his partner and lady of the day runner-up Jaimee Bruggenann.
“My girlfriend made me enter, she loves fashion — I’m a little shocked I won,” Kurt said.
Wearing a suit from Zara, Mr Sivoir accessorised with RM Williams boots and a Brixton hat.
He won a $500 custom suit from Clanceys Menswear and a Warrnambool Eyecare voucher.
Lady of the day runner-up Jaimee Bruggenann said she was excited to be competing on Thursday.
“I’m very excited — it’s awesome to be here,” Ms Bruggenann said.
“I found this fabric online with the help from one of my dressmakers, and then we did a few sketches, whipped it together, and I got the hat made to match.”
