Lake Pertobe’s recently-installed slide meets all safety criteria and complies with national standards, according to the City of Warrnambool.
The 9m slide, which is part of the new playground on Pertobe Rd that opened in December last year, got the coastal town community questioning the equipment’s safety as multiple injuries were reported.
The slide was even joked about online, with Facebook user Tyson Jenkins nicknaming the slide as the "Elimbinator".
After the injuries were reported to council, a sign was installed at the playground instructing people how to use the slide “safely”.
The post gained a lot of user attention and garnered mixed reactions.
“If you need to make so many rules about the slide, perhaps consider whether the slide is safe?” Bron Ferne commented on the post.
Perth engineer Alan Pollard took a holiday to Warrnambool with his family in December last year and said the slide was “pretty steep”.
“If they flattened it out at the end that would slow you down,” Mr Pollard said.
Despite the structure of the slide, he said children should try to “have fun” and be safe at the same time.
A spokesman said the council had not received any slide-related compensation claims, and that the slide had been reviewed again to confirm it was safe.
