It’s been smiles a-plenty at the Colac Cup.

Hundreds of people have turned out to watch the horses race and the fashions parade.

Colac Turf Club chief executive Maree Gannon said a lot of preparation went into the day and getting the course ready.

“We actually had Danny O’Brien have a bit of a gallop this morning and he said the track was perfect, so we’re expecting a perfect track for Friday,” Ms Gannon said ahead of the day.

It will be the second time the cup will be held on a Friday as it used to be held traditionally on a Sunday.

Ms Gannon said the corporate marquee had about 200 people already booked in, and general admission sales were also going “really well”.

“A big thanks to Country Racing — they did a campaign which we were first cab off the rank to thanking the frontline workers for all they did during the bushfires and floods and things that have gone wrong,” she said.

“We were allocated 200 tickets and we only have five tickets left so that’s been great for the club.”

“Cold drinks, good people, good times, suns out — I can’t complain,” SCT syndications chief officer Tash Blakley said.
