A mother of four has been forced to give birth child prematurely so she can receive treatment for breast cancer with the local community rallying to support the shocked family.
Harmony Newman, 36, was diagnosed with breast cancer just last week and only yesterday gave birth to her fourth child, Coco.
During the pregnancy, Harmony discovered a lump on her breast which was later diagnosed as breast cancer.
Harmony is going to have her breasts removed to deal with the cancer, and will also give birth prematurely to deal with the disease.
With Harmony and father Kyle both looking at an indefinite time off work, Matt Noseda — Harmony’s cousin and childhood friend of Kyle — has set up a GoFundMe page to support the young couple and their children.
The goal is $20,000, but Mr Noseda said $50,000 would be necessary to help buy the young family a new car that would fit everyone.
Harmony is originally from Colac - but she has taught and lived in Apollo Bay, while Kyle is from Apollo Bay.
Harmony and Kyle have three other children, Finn, Hunter and Solan.
Danika Gleeson, another member of the community, is organising breast milk for the family, as Harmony won’t be able to give breast milk to Coco.
Harmony is going through her first stage of chemotherapy.
