Warrnambool accommodation is fast selling out in the lead up to one of the town’s biggest annual events.

This year Warrnambool May Racing Carnival will run from May 2 to May 4.

Currently almost all accommodation in Warrnambool is booked until May 5, with the exception of two motels that are both charging over $1000 for the three-night stay.

The popular event – regional Victoria’s only three-day racing carnival – draws hundreds of people to the coastal town each year.

Warrnambool Racing Club marketing and sponsorships manager Luke Aggett said their presale ticket sales had been “incredible”.

“Most packages have started to sell out — there’s only a few things left,” Mr Aggett said.

“We’re excited to have a big carnival — it’s well-known and well-loved. Three days is a lot of fun, you don’t really get that anywhere else in racing.

“The ability to back up day after day with mates watching racing, enjoying beverages and hospitality is a pretty special thing.”

Mr Aggett said the racing was some of the “best jumps racing and flat track racing in the country”.

He said the racecourse itself was “pretty iconic”.

“The asset of the course itself is invaluable and I think these are all reasons why racegoers are checking out on the Friday morning probably a little weary, they are booking in their hotel room for next year.”

Mr Aggett said he was aware of the fact the town “sells out” and the carnival was a “huge” event.

“The accommodation is a challenge at the moment because everyone wants to come,” he said.

He said the club was looking at ways the carnival could continue to grow by allowing more people to stay in the area.

Mr Aggett expects more than 30,000 people to attend the three-day carnival.
