Victorian students celebrate their first days at school

Victorian school kids are packing their bags, shining their shoes and making sure their uniforms are ready as they prepare for Term 1.
But for thousands of kids, it’ll be their first day at primary school when the 2024 school year begins this week.
We’ll be heading to heaps of schools around Victoria to capture the special moment.
As the youngsters prepared for their first days, older students were getting ready for their last first day of primary school.
Grade 6 kids across Victoria have looked back at their younger years and told of what they’re looking forward to most.
Augustus (Augie) Holley from Sunshine Primary School can’t believe he’s finally in his last year of primary school, looking forward to wearing the Grade 6 top and jacket.
“It feels like I’ve been in school forever,” he said.
“I am really excited to be one of the senior kids of the school.”
Ataturk Balkaya from Aitkin College said he’s “very excited” for the new school year having scored a class with nice teachers and plenty of his mates.
His brother Ruzgar is looking forward to playing tag on the schoolyard again and studying maths, which he’s been putting in extra effort for at home.
Meanwhile, Surfside Primary School kids from Ocean Grove had fun recreating a photo from when they all tried tennis back as 2018 preps.
It comes as a Glen Eira College student opened up about his excitement for the school year after he was abducted, stabbed and then thrown from a moving car.
