A wheel manufacturer in Mildura is accused of not giving an employee proper training who sustained serious injuries when his hands were “pinned down” by machinery.

Titan Australia Pty Ltd faced the Melbourne Magistrates court on Tuesday over a string of charges relating to alleged safety breaches.

It is alleged the employee was using a machine which he had not received proper training or supervision for when his hand was pinned down and seriously injured.

The same employee also allegedly seriously injured his left hand when using a brake drum on a separate occasion due to alleged unsafe working conditions.

According to the documents WorkSafe told the court Titan Australia did not inform them of the incident, nor did they provide a report.

It’s alleged three other employees sustained serious injuries while at Titan Australia including lacerations to fingers and noses.

WorkSafe has also charged the company with failing, without reasonable excuse, to ensure that the site where an incident occurred was not disturbed.

The matter will return to the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court in July.
