Thick smoke can be seen across Melbourne’s western suburbs on Thursday afternoon as a planned burn off continues in Ravenhall.

The heavy smoke is visible from suburbs as far as Parkville and Moonee Ponds.

Forest Fire Management Victoria is burning 67ha of land in Ravenhall to “modify the vegetation abundance across the planned area to assist the promotion of Alluvial Plains Grassland”.

Forest Fire Management Victoria’s website states: “Without planned burning and other bushfire risk management works, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control.”
