Terence Fleming charged with death of Pakenham grandfather

A driver who allegedly struck and killed a much-loved grandfather in Pakenham and then left him in a ditch has faced court for the first time.

A Lang Lang man whose alleged dangerous overtake manoeuvre resulted in the death of a loved family man, has faced court for the first time.

Terence Fleming, 51, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a filing hearing on Tuesday.

Police have previously alleged the 60-year-old father and grandfather, Donald Brown, was struck as he rode his scooter at Pakenham South about 7pm on February 9, 2021.

The impact caused the Pakenham man to be flung from his scooter into a drainage ditch.

The driver allegedly fled the scene.

Police found the recently retired bricklayer lying unresponsive in the ditch near the intersection of Healesville - Koo Wee Rup and Ballarat roads.

Instead of arriving at Koo Wee Rup to play darts, he was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and sadly died that night.

Charge sheets, seen by Leader, show Fleming is facing three charges over the crash – driving dangerously, failing to stop after an accident and failing to render assistance.

Fleming will return to court for a committal mention in September.

His bail was extended to that date.
