Passengers were helped out of the train and into coaches by emergency services so they could continue their journeys.

According to police, the truck driver, a man believed to be aged in his 50s, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said paramedics treated one person for upper body injuries.

The person is in a stable condition but an air ambulance helicopter was dispatched.

They added V/Line crews would assess and repair any damage to the train and rail infrastructure once the scene was cleared.

The next Echuca line service departed Southern Cross Station at 3.06pm but will terminate at Bendigo.

Coaches will take travellers the remainder of the way.

V/Line chief executive, Matt Carrick, thanked Echuca line passengers for their patience.
