Sport lovers will have a new “home ground” to kick back and watch their favourite players with two Sporting Globe venues opening in the outer east — one just in time for Christmas.
Beers will start flowing at the Knox Ozone venue in mid-December, with the three-level bar and a rooftop beer garden already tentatively booked for Christmas parties.
The Knox Ozone venue is taking the place of Dragon Boat restaurant and will feature the largest rooftop beer garden in Knox, with views to the Dandenongs.
The second venue is about to break ground at Chirnside Park Shopping Centre at the front of Reading Cinemas, with the $6 million sports bar expected to be open by mid-2020.
The family-friendly venues will include a restaurant, bar, alfresco dining and function rooms.
Chief executive James Sinclair, who grew up in Coldstream, said the Chirnside Park venue would be the 16th Sporting Globe opened in Australia and also the largest.
Mr Sinclair said his brother David Sinclair and family friend Eloise Wallace would be operating the “modern day” pub.
“Chirnside Park is desperately in need of good food, beer and entertainment,” Mr Sinclair said.
“People want entertainment locally rather than having to travel into the city.”
He said the community would see the new structure start taking shape over Christmas and New Year.
Both venues will boast a jumbotron — a massive stadium television screen — with four screens allowing people on each side to watch the action.

The Knox Ozone pub will have 50 screens, while Chirnside Park will boast 70.
They will also include private dining booths with touchscreen TVs, where people can watch sport, browse the internet and play games.
Mr Sinclair said the Sporting Globe was a modern version of the Australian pub.
“We’ve set about modernising that traditional pub and amping up a much loved pastime — watching sports,” he said.
