Knox will host the second leg of the National Boxing Series tour with hard charging Victorian Jayde ‘The Matador’ Mitchell fighting Russian Stanislav Kashtanov.
The super middleweight fighter, who hails from Blairgowrie, will meet the former world champion at the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South for the main event on November 23.
The event will be the series debut in Melbourne launched by Hosking Promotions in conjunction with Jeff Horn’s promoter Dean Lonergan — D & L Promotions.
The tour, which is made up of 10 main stage fights with undercards, is touring the country, and will be televised on Fox Sports. Three of the events are scheduled for Melbourne next year.
Mitchell is fighting for the opportunity to pursue the world title next year.
Promoter Lynden Hosking said the aim behind the National Boxing Series was to showcase Australia’s best young talent to a nationally televised audience and build it to be big enough to be shown on pay-per-view channel Main Event.
“We’re trying to get some structure behind it (boxing),” Hosking said.
“It’s been rudderless for so long.
“Now we’re trying to have a platform for fighters.”
