BHUTTA’S DAY OUT, UNLUCKY HINGE

Roxburgh Park proved to be way too good for Footscray Angliss in Division 4 on the back of an inspired display from Sohaib Bhutta. After being run out for just three in his side’s innings, Bhutta turned match winner with the ball finishing with a remarkable 7-38 from his 27 overs. He played a key role in having the visitors all out for 165, 40 runs shy of their target.

Meanwhile, Bellbridge captain Dylan Hinge didn’t have quite the same fortune in his side’s three-wicket win over Melton South. He was dismissed on 99 by Sameera Vithana with his side needing another 13 runs for victory. He played an important innings for his side after they were in early trouble at 5-23. Daniel Spencer’s unbeaten 39 off 77 balls proved to be the perfect supporting knock.

CLUBBERS CRUISE

A rapid-fire century from Halwathurage Jayasinghe delivered Yarraville Club an impressive seven-wicket win over Keilor at Joe Brown Reserve on Saturday. The Clubbers middle order bat smashed an unbeaten 101 from just 84 delivers, including 12 fours and five sixes in an action-packed knock. Chasing 251, opener James Damjanovski had earlier gotten the reigning premier off to a steady start with 49 from 121 balls. Jayasinghe and Nandhalal Sangaran (53 not out) then finished the job. After a strong performance with the bat, Paxino Medallist Matt Gaskett couldn’t replicate his form with the ball, finishing with 1-62.

DIVISION 3 SEES INCREDIBLE BOWLING PERFORMANCES

The ball did all the talking on day two of the latest Division 3 Roy Picone Shield action with bowlers dominating. Julian De Zilva, who earlier this season took 16 wickets, in a day was again at his brilliant best for Maribyrnong Park St Mary’s with 7-29 in Point Cook’s second innings as his side secured an outright win.

Caroline Springs’ Gavin McCallum tore through East Keilor with 6-68 from 18.3 overs to set up a big win for his side.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Heights got on the board for the first time this season on the back of 7-34 from Harshveer Parmar against Kingsville. It was a performance which guided his side to a 78-run win.

DEER PARK, ST ALBANS COME UP SHORT OF OUTRIGHT

Deer Park’s mammoth first innings total of 6-354 almost delivered it an outright win but Craigieburn held on just long enough at Aitken Reserve. The Eagles were skittled for 98 on Saturday as seven batters were dismissed for ducks. Nathan Pappin’s fighting 52 was the only resistance. Lions star Ricky Suvada finished with 4-23 and Sohail Hussain snared 4-8 to dominate with the ball. Still trailing by 256 runs, the home team knuckled down and reached stumps at 2-86 with Adam Davies (26no) and Sam Laffan (38no). It was a similar story for St Albans at Kings Park. After being sent in on day one, Druids was dismissed for 190. In response, St Albans declared at 7-243 with a lead of 53. Nils Priestley continued his outstanding form with 160 from 135 balls, smashing 10 boundaries and nine sixes. The Saints then had a crack at a cheeky outright and made early breakthroughs with Druids falling to 1-7 and 2-26 but Jarrod Parsons (16no) and Samitha Sepala (4no) got it to stumps.

MENDIS TORMENTS WYNDHAMVALE

Amila Mendis was nothing short of superb for Seabrook in a big win over Wyndhamvale. He finished with 12 wickets for the game, including eight in the second innings as his side ran out outright winners. Seabrook’s 9-184 declared was enough to see them over the line with Wyndhamvale failing to reach triple figures in both innings.

MEEHAN GUIDES TULLAMARINE TO BIG WIN

Nishitha Weerakoon scored a big century for Tullamarine on day one but it was the bowling performance of Harry Meehan which stole the headlines on day two against Royal Park Brunswick. The visitors had no answers for Meehan’s dominant bowling display as he finished with 7-25 from 16 overs to guide Tulla to its second win of the season.
