Moorabbin has taken strong, purposeful steps in the VSDCA over the past three seasons.

Now the Saints are ready to leap into finals.

And their task will be improved significantly after appointing Christian Seisun and Chris Street as joint coaches for the 2023-24 season.

Their appointment is seen as a coup; Seisun played with Prahran and has coached around the world, while Street won the Ryder Medal with Premier side Fitzroy-Doncaster in 2002-03 and is a premiership coach at local level.

And as Moorabbin president Alan Marion points out, they are Saints old boys.

“They played with Moorabbin coming through and I was captain when they played in the firsts,” Marion said.

“We’ve always kept in touch and they always said to me, ‘we’ll come back to Moorabbin one day’.

“Well, they’re coming back as joint coaches next season on a two year, plus one, contract.

“It’s just what we need, just brilliant.

“They’re really tough, really to the point and knowledgeable. They’ll keep the young fellas right in line and the best thing is they’ll coach them properly.”

Seisun, 50, has coached cricket in England, Holland and South Africa.

“He’s picked up so much knowledge and information,’’ Marion said.

“He’s very strict and straight to the point.’’

Street, 46, won a premiership with Fitzroy-Doncaster and was also inducted into its hall of fame.

The former all-rounder also coached West Bentleigh after several seasons with Bentleigh CC in the VTCA. He won a premiership with Bentleigh as a playing coach.

Moorabbin finished this season with a flourish, winning three of its last three games to finish in ninth spot, on 48 points, in north-south section.

Marion said the Saints took another step forward this season.

“We’ve gone from six points, to 39 points, 42 and now 48 - and one rung out of the finals - so we’ve got to do one better next season,” Marion said.

“We’ve improved every year over the past three.”

Season 2023-24 will be Moorabbin’s 100th year and the club is planning a big launch with a centenary dinner at Glen Eira Town Hall in October.
