Bowled him!

That was the catch cry as Brighton’s Glen Parker cut a swathe through Port Melbourne, claiming a hat-trick, in the VSDCA on Saturday.

Making the achievement even more impressive, all three wickets were bowled, the stumps taking a fair old rattling at North Port Oval.

“That’s his first hat-trick,’’ Brighton skipper Pete Cassidy, who himself took a hat-trick last season, said.

“It’s pretty cool to do and he bowled all three which is pretty unreal.’’

Parker’s off cutters ripped the heart out of the Borough batting as they crashed to 59 all out in reply to Brighton’s 150.

His hat-trick reduced Port from 6-47 to 9-47, and he finished with 5-18 off eight overs.

Cassidy said he had a quick chat to Parker before he delivered the hat-trick ball.

“Everyone kept trying to change the field,” Cassidy said.

“I said, ‘you’re going to bowl him anyway, what’s the point?’

“He goes, ‘yeah, fair enough’, and he literally went straight through him.

“I said, ‘there’s no point having fielders everywhere, just do what you did the last two balls’, and he said ‘fair enough’.”

Parker knocked over Port Melbourne No. 10 Ankit Shetty to complete the hat-trick.

Brighton set about chasing outright points but fell short by only two wickets.

The Tonners cracked 2-68 off 11.4 overs in their second dig before declaring with a lead of 159.

Batting a second time, Port Melbourne was 8-95, gripping on to deny the visitors maxium points. Port youngster Nicholas Benson (17no off 49) and skipper Ryan McDonald (17 off 61) showed fight.

“We probably needed another two or three overs,” Cassidy said.

“They’re hard to get.”

Cassidy was the star of the second innings, grabbing 6-21 off 13 overs to go with his 3-20 in the first dig.

Brighton hopes to welcome back champion batter Rick Damiano from illness this week.
