Mount Waverley spinner Milan Fernando is enjoying another fine VSDCA season and should be included in the team of the year, according to coach Michael Sheedy.
The left-arm tweaker grabbed his second five-wicket haul of the season on Saturday in the two-wicket defeat against Ivanhoe
Fernando returned 5-88 from 27 overs, taking him to 29 wickets for the season — the same mark he reached in 2017-18.

He has taken 14 wickets in the past three games.
“You’d go a long way to say that he’s probably the best in the comp,” Sheedy said.
“He’s been outstanding, he’s a bit like a wind-up doll, you wind him up and away he goes from one end and just wheels away.
“He is our best player there is no doubt and I think opposition teams know that so they target him a little bit.
“If it takes two or three years to get an All Australian selection, then it’s probably take Milan two or three years to get recognised in this comp.”
Mt Waverley captain Andy Power said Fernando should “absolutely” be recognised in the team of the year.
“He’s the best spinner I’ve ever played with,” Power said.
“He’s consistency and different plans to different batsmen, he’s as good as I’ve ever played with.
“He’s obviously very consistent, hits great lines and good lengths and he has different balls which are very difficult to pick up through the air and out of his hand.”
Mt Waverley travels to A.G Gillon Oval to face second-placed Brunswick in a one-day game this weekend.
The winner will secure a home final.
“We’re just focusing on playing really good cricket and we think if we play good cricket we’ll be a good chance of winning,” Power said.
“I think this year’s comp, anyone in the six can win it.
“For us playing at home, we might have lost one at home but we play our ground really well and I think that would definitely help us.”
