VMCU: The top players from junior carnival revealed
There were a number of standout performers during the VMCU’s junior carnival held in the first half of January. Here are our top performers.

Young guns from across Melbourne put on a show at the Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union junior carnival which came to an end last week.
From the under-12s to the under-18s, there is plenty to be excited about for the future of the sport.
Here are the top performers from across the carnival.
Varsha Avulanna, Eastern
Put together a strong performance with a competition high 147 runs in the under-12 girls division. Avulanna was also impressive with the ball taking nine wickets.
Aiden Boby, Ferntree Gully and District
Sensational across the tournament with 282 runs at 94 including three half-centuries.
Anna Burgon, All Girls Cricket
Burgon took at least one wicket in every game to finish with 16 for the tournament at an average of 7.2.
Charlie Carter, Western Region
Had the third most runs in the under-18 division with 210 at an average of 42. Consistently got off to strong starts with one half-century to his name.
Alex Chandler, Ferntree Gully and District
Two half-centuries capped off an impressive performance for Chandler who scored 316 runs at 52.7.
Nicholas Critchley, South East
Enjoyed a standout performance with the bat and bat. Critchley scored 318 runs at an average of 795 and took six wickets at 10.7. His 5-13 against Ferntree Gully included a double hat-trick.
Arlo Douglas-Hines, South East
Was the leading wicket taker in the under-14 Russell Allen Shield with 13 wickets at 9.8.
Tyler Evans, Ferntree Gully and District
Produced a stunning tournament with bat and ball. Scored 176 runs at an average of 35.2 while taking 18 wickets, the most of any player, at 8.2. Evans’ best figures were 6-16 against Mornington Peninsula.
Riley Foley, Ringwood District
Caused plenty of headaches for opposition sides throughout the tournament, being dismissed just once in four innings going tonto score 236 runs including a century.
Ranen Gandhi, Dandenong District
Gandi was in brilliant form with the bat in the under-12 Keith Mitchell shield as he finished with 298 runs at 74.5 across the competition. Also chipped in with four wickets.
Campbell Gregory, Inner South East
The middle order batsman showed plenty of promise with 280 runs at an average of 70 in the under-12 competition.
Sam Hawkins, Eastern
Finished as the leading run scorer in the under-14 Russell Allen Shield with 229 runs at 76.3. Also claimed four wickets, after bowling in every game.
Xavier Healey, Western Region
Was the leading wicket taker in the under-16 Jim Beitzel Shield with 13 wickets at an average of nine.
James Hepburn, Ferntree Gully and District
Hepburn was the leading wicket taker in the under-16 Keith Mackay Shield with 15 wickets at 15.1.
Chase Hiku, Mornington Peninsula
Posted three half-centuries on his way to 254 runs for the tournament and also chipped in with six wickets for his side.
Sidney Johns, Eastern
Johns finished the tournament with two half-centuries on his way to 280 runs at 58.
Jasmine Kamboj, North West Metro
Started the competition on fire with a century and never showed any signs of slowing down. Kamboj finished with 264 runs at 88.
Aryahi Khadilkar, Western Region
In six matches, Khadilkar plundered 280 runs at an average of 70 including two half-centuries.
Rohan Kinariwala, Eastern
Enjoyed a wonderful tournament with the ball taking 13 wickets at an average of 9.8.
Katarina Lavanda, Western Region
A strong performer with the ball in particular with 13 wickets at 4.4. Lavanda also showed plenty of positives with the bat in the under-14 girls competition.
Dougal McCartney, South East
McCartney produced an impressive run of form for his side to lead all comers in the Keith Mackay Shield with 323 runs at 46.1. His tournament included a century in the semi-final and two half-centuries.
Charlie Moore, Ringwood District
Moore was the second leading run scorer in the under-14 Russell Allen Shield after hitting 204 runs at 102.
Lily Osborn, Ringwood District
Showed off a tremendous all-round ability with 256 runs, including three half-centuries, at 64. Osborn also finished the tournament with nine wickets.
Noura Abdul Qader, Western Region
Dismissed just once in the under-14 girls division, making four half-centuries throughout the competition. She finished with 350 runs in seven innings.
Luca Rhodes, Eastern
After going wicketless in the opening game, Rhodes eventually finished with 17 scalps at 10.6.
Yuvraj Sharma, Ringwood District
Sharma was a bright spark during his side’s tournament finishing with 202 runs with a whopping average of 101. His 3-4 bowling performance in the semi-final highlighted his all-round ability.
Samaira Shetty, Eastern
Was the under-12 girls leading wicket taker with 10 at just 6.3.
Samar Singh, Western Region
What a tournament this young man put together. In eight innings, he scored a whopping 375 runs at an average of 125. With the ball, Singh took eight wickets at 175.
Josh Smith, South East
Took a wicket in every game including 4-33 in the opening round against Casey Cardinia. Overall, Smith finished with 13 wickets at 9.5.
Rohan Sood, Western Region
Sood finished the tournament with 13 wickets at 9.15. Also showed good signs with the bat in a couple of games.
Cooper Sticht, Ringwood District
Sticht was the leading run scorer in the under-16 boys Jim Beitzel Shield after plundering 304 runs including two unbeaten centuries in a row during a brilliant tournament as his side reached the semi-final.
Nicholas Tindall, South East
Finished as the leading run scorer in the under-18 Phil Arnold Shield with 243 runs at an average of 60.75. Tindall’s tournament included two half-centuries and a top score of 98. He also picked up four wickets.
Harry Van Raay, Mornington Peninsula
Was devastating with the ball throughout the tournament, taking 13 wickets at 6.3.
Zara Veal, Ringwood District
Finished with 10 wickets at an average of 8.6. She also contributed with the bat, highlighted by three scores in the 30s.
Lenny Wilkins, South East
Was tremendous with the ball throughout the competition to finish with 11 wickets at 9.3. Also showed his class with the bat in the grand final with 39 runs at number 10.
