Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 top performers from round one

The opening round of the new Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 competition was highlighted by a stunning century. Here’s a look at the top performers.

Aussies admit to finding Indian pitches hard to read

The opening round of the new Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 men’s competition was held on Sunday and future stars put on some monster displays.

Dandenong’s Jaskabeer Singh produced the performance of the day with a wonderful century to power his side to 9-274 in their win over Northcote.

Singh finished with 137 runs from 115 deliveries in an innings which included 18 boundaries and two 6s.

He also shared a 167-run partnership with Ryan Adams who hit his own half-century.

Northcote’s James Shadbolt enjoyed a promising game himself with 60 runs and 1-23 from his four overs.

In other games, Luca van der Sluys impressed with the bat for Melbourne University, hitting 82 runs from 123 deliveries as his side overcame Carlton by 52 runs.

The day’s best bowling figures belonged to Geelong’s Henry Bensch who took 4-13 in his side’s 61-run win over Fitzroy Doncaster.

Geelong skipper Oliver Peake took 3-13 after missing out with the bat.

Carlton’s Nicholas Brennan also made a strong start to the competition with 4-34.
