Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 men’s best players named

The new look Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 men’s competition has seen special performances throughout the pool phase. See who were the most dominant players with the semi-finals now set.

The final four of the Victorian Premier Cricket under-18 men’s competition have been locked in.

On Sunday, the final games of the pool stage were held with a series of impressive performances across all nine games.

The semi-finals, set to be held on February 11, will see St Kilda face Prahran while Melbourne will take on Footscray.

Here’s a look at the final round and all of the top performers from the group phase.

POOL A

The day’s best batting performance belonged to St Kilda captain Moe Spencer who hit 158 runs from 144 balls iun his side’s 79-run win over Northcote.

He put on an 141-run first wicket stand with Cooper Rojko (51 off 80) as his side posted 7-294 before Northcote was restricted to 9-215 from its 50 overs.

Michael Chen hit a half-century in the run chase as Nicholas Gillard finished with 3-56.

In other games, Melbourne Uni was too good for Camberwell Magpies, prevailing by four wickets after being guided home thanks to half-centuries from Connor Hastings and Luca van der Sluys.

Elsewhere, Nicholas Brennan led Carlton to a win against Dandenong after claiming four wickets for his side.

POOL B

Prahran still managed to qualify for the final four despite going down to Ringwood by three wickets in the last game of the pool phase.

Captain Alex Turner guided Prahran to 160 before the Rams chases down the total inside 35 overs led by half-centuries to skipper Archie Flynn and William Box.

Melbourne finished top of the group after a comprehensive win over Kingston Hawthorn led by a powerful century from Brodie Reaper who hit 114 off 94 balls.

His innings included 11 boundaries and three 6s as Melbourne reached 7-309.

Ben Wickham and Tyler Hunter took three wickets apiece to restrict the Hawks to just 165.

Frankston Peninsula duo Charlie Costa (85 off 117) and captain Sam Gove (144 not out off 81) combined for an unbeaten 218-run partnership to guide their side to a big win over Casey South Melbourne.

POOL C

Essendon was able to get the better of Footscray by nine runs in a thrilling contest at Windy Hill with Jessraj Badhaan’s 73 off 90 a key difference between the two sides.

He along with Sai Shail Simhadri helped guide the home side to 5-213. Footscray reached 7-204 largely thanks to some late order hitting from captain Josh Pace with 69 off 108.

Nathan Flinn (116 off 128) posted a brilliant century for Fitzroy Doncaster as it secured a comfortable win over Greenvale Kangaroos, while skipper Harrison Smith took 5-23.

Meanwhile, Richmond was able to close its campaign with a win thanks to a 23-run win over Geelong.
