Victorian Premier Cricket T20 competition gets underway

The big names returned as Victorian Premier Cricket’s T20 competition got underway on Saturday with some huge performances. Here’s who stole the spotlight.

The final round of the Victorian Premier Cricket season for the year brought about a cricketing bonanza.

All 18 clubs were involved in the start of the T20 competition on Saturday which saw each team play two matches throughout the day.

Camberwell Magpies, Carlton, Geelong and Melbourne made perfect starts to the competition with two wins from two.

Meanwhile it was a much tougher start for Frankston Peninsula, Greenvale Kangaroos, Melbourne Uni and Prahran who dropped their matches.

With the Big Bash League on a break due to the recent test match, it also allowed several big names to return to their respective clubs.

Here’s a look at who performed strongest to make our Team of the Week.

1. Mackenzie Harvey (Carlton)

The leading run scorer, with 143 in two knocks, from the weekend which was highlighted by an impressive unbeaten 98 against Essendon.

2. Tom Rogers (Ringwood)

Scored 99 runs across both games highlighted by his 54 not out against Fitzroy Doncaster.

3. Matthew Wilson (Dandenong)

Hit two impressive half centuries with his best 69 against Northcote. Also chipped in with a couple of wickets.

4. Oliver Peake (Geelong)

The young gun showed why he’s considered a future star with two unbeaten half-centuries including 73 against a star studded St Kilda.

5. Farzan Chowna (Essendon)

Opened his campaign with an unbeaten 74 against Greenvale.

6. Dylan Kight (Footscray) (WK)

A solid performer with 67 runs for the weekend as Footscray went 1-1.

7. Jono Merlo (St Kilda)

Impressed with the ball across the day as he finished with 4-17 against Melbourne Uni.

8. Wilson McGillivray (Melbourne)

Opposition batters struggled to get him away as he kept things tight to finish with five wickets for the weekend.

9. Will Walker (Camberwell Magpies)

Enjoyed a very tidy weekend with the ball highlighted by 4-13.

10. Cameron Stevenson (Carlton)

Claimed wickets and kept it tight. A near perfect weekend from Stevenson.

11. Nathan Lambden (Casey-South Melbourne)

Currently sits as the T20 competition’s leading wicket taker after finishing with six for the weekend at an average of 6.17
