The Darwin and District Cricket Competition has been a happy hunting ground for Victorian prospects in recent winters.

James Seymour, Dylan Brasher, Ashley Chandrasinghe, Brodie Symons and Jake Reed have all made their mark on the competition before returning in sublime form for their respective Victorian Premier Cricket clubs.

A bundle of Victorian cricketers are set to feature in the competition again in 2023.

Here are the ones to keep an eye on.

FARZAN CHOWNA (PINT)

The Essendon Victorian Premier cricketer scored 327 runs in first grade last season at an average of 27.75. He has three Premier First XI half centuries to his name. Chowna has also represented Victoria at underage level. He made an unbeaten century of 111 against Queensland Country in the Under-19 National Championships last season.

ATHARV DESHPANDE (Darwin)

The Casey South Melbourne bat embarks on his first trip north after his maiden First XI Premier Cricket season. He has big shoes to fill at the top of the order for Darwin after previously having Dylan Brasher compile sensational seasons, but he has all the assets to be a state-level player.

JAMES DOHERTY (Nightcliff)

The Footscray middle-order bat scored six half-centuries from 15 knocks last season in the Bulldogs’ Second XI. He scored 586 runs at an average of 48.83 for the campaign. Doherty represented Victoria at under-19 level in 2021-22.

KANE DONALD (Southern Districts)

The wicketkeeper bat will add further depth to the Southern Districts stocks. For local club Rosebud (MPCA), Donald made 426 runs at 25 and took 23 dismissals in the 2022-23 summer.

MAX HATZOGLOU (Tracy Village)

Hatzoglou joins Tracey Village not only as a top order bat but also as the club’s wicketkeeper and captain-coach. The left-hander made over 200 runs for Melbourne University this Victorian summer before a back injury halted the flow of his season. Prior to 2022-23, Hatzoglou spent two seasons with Prospect in South Australia where he made 796 runs at 33 with three centuries.

VINCENT HUF (Tracy Village)

The Geelong quick took 16 wickets in Victorian Premier Cricket this season and also represented Vic Country at the Under-19 National Championships. A bowling spell of 4-38 from 10 overs in his state’s Round 2 clash against Western Australia was a highlight of Huf‘s season.

TOMMY JACKSON (Southern Districts)

The former Victoria rookie contracted wicketkeeper-bat returns to the Top End in 2023 but with Southern Districts this time around. He follows coach Anthony Judd in making the move across to the Crocs from Tracy Village. Jackson played for Geelong in Victoria last season before deciding to move to South Australia premier side Tea Tree Gully in the middle of the season, where he scored 207 runs from five matches.

ISAAC LOVE (Southern Districts)

Southern Districts has invited the Rosedale-Kilmany all-rounder after a solid season in the Sale-Maffra competition. Love complemented his 23 wickets at just 16.39 with 221 runs at 15.79 in the season just gone. He also represented the competition in the Victorian Country Week competition.

REILEY MARK (Southern Districts)

Mark has made the move from Tracey Village to Southern Districts after an exceptional 2022 season. He took 34 wickets at 29 across all formats last year and carried that form into the Victorian Premier Cricket season with 22 wickets at just 19 for Richmond. The off spinner went at less than three runs an over for the Tigers this year.

ASH NAGEL (Southern Districts)

Nagel returns to Southern Districts after winning another flag with Rosebud in the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association. Nagel had a phenomenal finals series in B Grade last summer for Southern Districts, capturing 9-28 and 3-29 in his two outings.

DANIEL PADULA (Southern Districts)

Padula hails from Sale in the Sale-Maffra competition where he opens the batting. He had a disappointing finish to his local season with a duck in the grand final but will be looking to redeem that knock with a big summer in the Northern Territory.

PRAJAY PARAMESH (Tracy Village)

The opener scored 337 runs at an average of 33.70 last season for Kingston Hawthorn’s Second XI while also playing three games in the club's First XI. He is a returning player at Tracy Village in 2023 after playing at the club last year.
