After a season away, Peter Dickson is back.

The Premier Cricket champion has been named as the new captain-coach of East Doncaster for the 2023-24 season.

Dickson takes over from his great Matt Bremner who was recently appointed as the new coach of Fitzroy-Doncaster.

Speaking after his appointment, Dickson said he felt the time was right to return the Eastern Cricket Association powerhouse.

He missed last season due to completing renovations on his house.

“I have really enjoyed being involved at East Doncaster since I joined the club,” Dickson said.

“Missing the past season was a good opportunity to get myself settled away from cricket.

“I can’t wait to get back into it. I missed playing especially in the second half of last season, during the first half I probably had a bit too much going on to even think about it.

“I just wanted to jump into playing and once Matt was appointed at Fitzroy-Doncaster, a few doors opened up for me and I’m fortunate to be given this opportunity.”

In his two previous seasons in the Dunstan Shield, Dickson hit over 1100 runs including a century and seven 50s.

Now he’s ready to bring a clear direction to last season’s minor premier.

“My big thing is wanting to provide leadership to the whole club,” he said.

“There’s always going to be a focus on the First XI but I want to make it clear to all other grades, senior and junior, we’re working through the season together.

“We want an environment where people can come to enjoy their cricket, at training and on game days while improving their skills.

“It’s all about everyone enjoying what they’re doing.”

With East Doncaster already proving to be one of the powerhouses of the competition, Dickson said he didn’t expect too much to change.

“I think we’ve got the talent there to be a successful team, the form showed that last season,” he said.

“My challenge as a coach is to help guys get to the next level and playing as well as they can.

“We don’t want to be predictable. I want guys to be able to play a variety of different roles.

“We want to be hard to play against.”
