Bradman is in.
Bradman Constable, that is.
The young all-rounder with the famous name has been included in Cricket Victoria’s Vic Metro and Vic Country squads for the Under 19 male emerging players program.
From Bendigo United Cricket Club, Constable has linked with Premier club Greenvale Kangaroos and last season played in the Second and Third XIs.
He also lined up in the Kangaroos’ Under 18 team in the VTCA.
Bowling allrounder Constable represented Vic Country at the Under 15 national championships in 2018-19, and last season was also involved in the Under 17 summer series in western Victoria, scoring 30 not out and taking three wickets in a match against South Australia.
He’s one of 61 players involved in the emerging players program.
They will have the chance to impress coaches and selectors and in the opening rounds of Premier Cricket in the lead-up to the Under 19 National Championships later this year.
From next month, players will be put through their paces at the CitiPower Centre by a coaching group including Sheffield Shield-winning coach Greg Shipperd, former Vics captain Cameron White and ex-star Sri Lankan batsman Thilan Samaraweera.
A camp, further sessions around the state and trial matches will provide additional development opportunities for the players.
The under 19 National Championships were cancelled last season due to coronavirus but will return in December.
Adelaide will host the tournament.
The group of 61 includes players who have already turned out in Premier Firsts, including Melbourne trio Campbell Kellaway, Kobe Herft and Marcus Jackman, Casey South Melbourne’s Harrish Kannan, Richmond’s Reiley Mark and Footscray’s Max Birthisel.
Earlier in the week 18-year-old offie Mark was named in the open-age male emerging performance squad for 2021-22.
“We’re delighted to offer this development opportunity to what is a very talented group of young players,” Cricket Victoria’s manager of the male emerging players program Tom Evans said.
“After missing out on the National Championships last season, the return of the tournament will provide added incentive for the players and we look forward to selecting strong Vic Metro and Vic Country squads to represent our state in Adelaide.”
