The only way is up for Greenvale Kangaroos.

After a winless Dowling Shield campaign last season, the Kangaroos expect to be far more competitive when the new season kicks off next year.

Coach Trent Waring has compiled a talent-laden squad.

Several players are currently representing Central Highlands and North-East Knights in the Country Cup including Armi Wakefield and Chad Brookes who are captaining the respective teams.

See Waring’s take on each player in the squad below.

GREENVALE KANGAROOS DOWLING SHIELD SQUAD

AIDEN BLOOMFIELD (Hurstbridge)

Right handed opening bat who is quite aggressive at the top of the order

CHAD BROOKES (Wodonga Raiders)

A wicketkeeper-batsman who captained North-East Knights’ Country Cup team.

PETER COOPER (Baranduda Rangers)

Left-arm quick, swings it, and bowls really good pace. He’ll open the bowling for us.

WILL GRAHAM (Wangaratta Rovers)

A right-arm quick, he’ll either partner Peter up front or follow him. If Peter is our quickest, Will goes real close to that title.

ANT GROBLER (Macedon)

Middle-order bat who can wicketkeep as well. He’ll bat four or five and control the middle overs.

LUCAS HOLGATE (Bamawm-Lockington)

Right-arm quick who can hit a very long ball when he gets a hold of them. He’ll really enjoy the T20 aspect of the carnival and really good hands for a quick. He living every fast bowlers’ dream, he’ll field at slip.

JASHAN JAURA (Preston)

He’s our wicketkeeper. He’s currently playing at Preston and his brother is wicketkeeping in our lower XIs. Really tidy.

CHARLIE KARALUWINNE (Kew)

A left-arm leg-spinner with a few tricks – wrong’un, slider and a really good flipper out the front of the hand. Really good in the field.

ABDUL MAJEED (Caroline Springs)

A flat leg-spinner, quite quick out of the hand. Bowls with very good control.

AIDYN MATHESON (Mt Clear)

Right-hand top-order batsman and bowls more than handy medium pace. He’ll probably bat at No.5 and is very good on the hook and pull.

ANGUS O’BRIEN (White Hills)

Your classic leg-spinner. Very good control, bowls with a bit of loop and has a very good wrong’un.

HARRY SCARDAMAGLIA (Bacchus Marsh/Melton)

Left-hander who will open the batting for us. Plays proper cricket shots.

ANSH SHARMA (Moonee Ponds)

Left-arm orthodox spinner and left-hand bat. Very good control and changes of pace and can bat anywhere in the top-seven. Handy versatility with the changes in the carnival.

NICK STAROPOLI (Strathmore)

Will probably take the new ball into the breeze. A right-arm quick with good control who can swing it both ways.

MAX THOMPSON (Nyah District)

Our bottom-ager. Played in the Bradman Cup for the Riverina team. Convinced he’s going to be a superstar. Right-hand bat and right-arm seamer.

ARMI WAKEFIELD (Bacchus Marsh)

Plays first grade for Bacchus Marsh, a right-hand bat and spinner. Will probably bat three or four. Captaining the Central Highlands team in the Country Cup.
