HE’S a good get for Sandown.
The Cobras have appointed Steve Goodie as their new senior coach, replacing Mick Rossborough.
Goodie’s time in football has been varied and successful, as a player (around 400 games), coach (Level 2 accredited) and administrator (club president for 10 years.
He will step into the Southern Football League for the first time.
Cobras general manager Brett Phillips welcomed Goodie’s arrival.
“We are really pleased to have landed someone with the knowledge and experience of Steve Goodie, who has come highly recommended for his football nous, intellect and student of the game,’’ he said.
“We went out to identify the most appropriate person to lead us through our next phase as a football club and we are confident Steve is the right man to deliver what we are after.
“While his primary job and love is to coach, he will be a very valuable resource for us off field and will help us drive a number of initiatives to secure the club’s future.
“The last four years have seen the club go from bottom end Division 3 to top end Division 3, and now we want to take the next step to climb out of Division 3 and continue to build on the foundations formed on and off the field to make Sandown a sustainable strong club well into the future.’’
Goodie, a nurseryman, has been involved at Gembrook Cockatoo, Vermont, Upwey-Tecoma,
Cora Lynn, Rythdale-Officer Cardinia and the Eastern Ranges.
Across his long playing career he won five best and fairests and played in premierships.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge of taking the club to the next level, on the back of the work done on and off the field over the last few years, and really bringing together further the strength of numbers the club has had,’’ Goodie said.
“I will be looking to bring an attractive modern brand of footy to advance the club forward.”
A meet-the-coach evening has been set for Wednesday, November 19 and pre-season will start on Monday, December 1.
