Old Brighton has continued its hot start to season 2025 with another thumping win, this time against Old Haileybury in round 2 on Saturday.

After knocking off University Blacks by 96 points in round 1, Collegians were once again far too strong in the 19.13 (127) to 12.8 (80) victory.

A seven-goal to one first quarter proved to be the difference in the win with the victors once again having an abundance of goal kickers in the win.

Skipper Harry Hill said post-game it was proof of the deep talent on their list while also pleased with the work up the field of his midfield group.

“It’s awesome,” Hill said.

“It shows we are not reliant on one person. We have a lot of guys that can run through that forward line and have a couple of goal kicking mids (also).

“We pride ourselves on our contest work. I thought Felix (Flockart) in the ruck was really good and our forwards are so dangerous that when we get it in there, we are hard to stop.”

Old Brighton are now 2-0 to start the season while Old Haileybury are 1-1.

In reserves action, an inaccurate Old Brighton won big with a 13.24 (102) to 4.7 (31) thumping.

PREVIEW

VAFA coaches could have some difficult discussions at the selection table this week.

With the VFL on a bye due to the state game against the SANFL, there’s every opportunity a number of state league guns could be available at community level.

Old Brighton and Old Haileybury clash on Saturday in a game which could be littered with several changes to each side despite both coming off big opening round wins.

They’ll go head-to-head in this week’s KommunityTV double-header which will be live streamed exclusively on News Corp Australia platforms.

The Bloods recorded a statement win in their return to the top flight with a 74-point thumping of Collegians in the opening round.

Coach Daniel Ward said possible inclusions “would depend” on the respective VFL clubs and decisions could come after training on Thursday night.

Josh Docking (Sandringham) is one possible to the Old Haileybury line-up.

“We’re just going to roll with the punches,” Ward said.

“We’re not relying on having those guys available, it’s just adding to what we already have.

“Jack Bell and Hugo Nosiara are back from the VFL full-time this season and they’ve already made strong starts to the season.

“We had three retirements at the end of last season and there has been an opportunity for the younger guys to really step up.”

Old Brighton themselves have several VFL listed players who could be available if released to play this weekend.

No matter who takes to the park, Ward knows a massive challenge is in front of his side despite the result they produced in the season opener.

“We’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves. There’s no bigger test than Brighton at Brighton,” he said.

“When you’re the coach, you want the hamburger with the lot. There were a lot of positives for us last week but there’s still a lot for us to work on.”
