TEAMS competing in the inaugural Victorian Super Slam will have the scope to boost their squads with players from other clubs via draft-style recruiting rules for the T20 tournament.

All players must register for the competition, indicating their preferred team, and each club has to submit a 15-player squad by October 1.

Officials will then release the full list of players that nominated for Super Slam, allowing clubs to sign any who weren’t selected.

“(It) will allow any players not picked in the initial club squads a second opportunity to find a club or give clubs a choice of players to fill a skill gap (and) top up squads,’’ Victorian Premier Cricket manager Mike Ronchi said.

Each club will ultimately enter the tournament with 18 players.

During Super Slam clubs will be able to call up players outside their nominated squad, provided they haven’t already played a match for another team.

It’s believed one team has already recruited an interstate first-class cricketer to serve as a marquee player.

Super Slam #01 will have two conferences, each with nine teams, and clubs will play six preliminary rounds.

Each conference will have a top four, leading to conference semi-finals and then a final.

The two conference winners will play off in the Championship Final — the “Grand Slam’’.

Both finalists will earn a ticket to Adelaide for the Cricket Australia National Premier T20 Championship in March.

Greenvale Kangaroos, Melbourne, Fitzroy Doncaster, Northcote, Essendon, Geelong, Footscray, Melbourne University and Carlton will form the Renegades conference and Kingston Hawthorn, Camberwell Magpies, Casey South Melbourne, Dandenong, Ringwood, Frankston-Peninsula, Monash Tigers, St Kilda and Prahran make up the Stars conference.

Ronchi said the Super Slam was intended to:

* create a competition that could attract and offer cricketers from anywhere in the state a high-standard T20 competition.

* hone and develop T20 skills and talent.

* identify emerging T20 players and coaches and “present them with BBL opportunities’’.

* establish a pathway towards “professional T20 possibilities’’

Super Slam #01 will blast off with double-headers on Sunday, November 25.
