Good things are happening at Frankston Peninsula — and now another.

Australian Test paceman Scott Boland has put his hand up to do some specialist coaching at the Heat, his home club and where he climbed through the ranks all the way to the game’s highest level.

“He’s reached out and wants to be involved hands on in the coaching when his commitments allow him, which is terrific for our young group,’’ Frankston Peninsula head coach Peter Marshall said.

“He’s just a terrific person. He will talk quietly and softly but what he says they need to embrace it.

“He’s a man of few words but they are wise words.”

Boland made his Test cricket debut at the MCG on Boxing Day, 2021 aged 32. He destroyed England in his first Ashes Test, taking 6 for 7.

He has played 10 Tests, taking 35 wickets at an average of 20.34.

Boland is the second First Nations male cricketer to play for Australian in a Test match, following in the footsteps of fellow fast bowler Jason Gillespie.

The Heat will have two Test players in their coaching group, with Jon Holland also involved. Holland played four Tests for Australia, debuting against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2016. He has taken nine Test wickets.

Meanwhile, Marshall hopes to add more recruits as the Heat begins a new, exciting era.

“Our books are still open, encouraging any up and comers, probably 18 and above, to come down and dip their toe in the water at Premier level,’’ he said.

“Our facilities are going to be first class.”

Sorrento all-rounder Luke Kranzbuhler has returned to the Heat, keen to kickstart his Premier Cricket career.

Frankston Peninsula has also regained batters Nick Taranto, who missed last season with a shoulder injury, Ryan Hammel, back from a broken wrist, and big-hitting opener Vishesh Bansal.

Frankston Peninsula will hold an information night at Jubilee Park centre on July 3 and Marshall encourages any cricketer thinking about having a go at Premier Cricket to attend.

“I’m pretty keen to see if there are a couple of senior players who might be interested...they’re welcome to show their face,” he said.

Heat pre-season training starts on Thursday, July 18.
