MPCA: Star duo join Rosebud as marquee players for Twenty20 competition
MPCA clubs have made some huge signings ahead of the Twenty20 competition, with Rosebud landing a double coup; a former Test batter and also a current Melbourne Stars player.

The big guns are set to blast off in the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association’s Jack Peacock Cup Twenty20 competition competition, starting on Tuesday.
Rosebud has taken full advantage of the new rule allowing marquee players by securing Victorian and Melbourne Stars leg-spinning all-rounder Tom O’Connell.
The 22-year-old has played eight matches for the Stars as well as four one-day matches for Victoria.
O’Connell will line-up for the Sharks in the opening round game against Boneo at Boneo Reserve on Tuesday afternoon.
Rosebud has also confirmed former Australian, Victorian and Melbourne Stars batter Rob Quiney will play in its Round 2 game against Rye on November 8.
Quiney is great mates with Rosebud coach Nick Jewell, who will also play in that game against Rye.
MPCA clubs voted to allow marquee players this season at the MPCA annual general meeting in July.
Big name players, including international stars, can now slot into clubs line ups, whipping up excitement and boosting crowds.
Baden Powell has secured Frankston Peninsula gun Brodie Symons, one of the leading all-rounders in Victorian Premier Cricket.
Carrum Downs has snared Pakenham master blaster Dale Tormey, a renowned six hitter. He used to play with Cougars teammates Brad Lockhart and Shane Smith at Chelsea Heights-Aspendale Gardens.
There’s also speculation English T20 star Ian Cockbain will join Langwarrin again. He was a Big Bash League sensation last season after being plucked out of Langy by the Adelaide Strikers.
