Baden Powell champion Craig Entwistle battled through searing heat to notch back-to-back centuries in MPCA Provincial on Saturday.

The 47-year-old was on the verge of collapse when he retired unbeaten on 132 off 227 balls (18 fours) with five overs to go against Sorrento at Overport Park.

It followed a knock of 110 against Old Peninsula in the previous round.

“He was out there for 70 overs,” Baden Powell teammate Rhys Elmi said.

“I was actually out there umpiring and was a bit concerned with how he was going so I pretty much said, ‘it might be a good idea if you went off’, as he was absolutely cooked.”

Entwistle’s brilliant century help Baden Powell to 327.

Elmi said Entwistle, who played 206 Premier Cricket matches with Frankston Peninsula, Kingston Hawthorn and Casey South Melbourne, was in such good form that he “doesn’t look like going out”.

He’s scored 447 runs, at 63.86, this season.

PADDY POWER

Pines football coach Paddy Swayn raised his bat for his maiden century in the Piners’ 4th XI.

Twelve months after suffering a serious medical ordeal, Swayn batted through searing heat to make 116 not out against Hastings at Victoria Park, Frankston.

Swayn smashed 10 sixes and 7 fours and shared a 240-run partnership with Darren Woodman, who smashed 143.

Chasing 296, Pines blasted its way to 2-308 off 27 overs.

HOLLAND GOES BIG

Mt Eliza batsman-keeper Adam Holland blasted the highest score of the round, 158, against Moorooduc in Peninsula 2nds.

It was his first century for the Mounties and escorted his side to a hefty 7-326 (declared).

Holland shared a 145-run sixth wicket partnership with Harrison Watson (50no).

HILLS OPENER HITS TON

In A1, Heatherhill opener Sean Cameron scored a career-best 136 against Delacombe Park, helping the Hills to 4-297.

THIRD CENTURY FOR ASHTON

Two Langwarrin batsmen smacked centuries in a total of 9-310 against Somerville in B1 grade.

Skipper Ben Wells made 133 (19 fours, 3 sixes) and opener Matt Ashton 115 (11 fours, 7 sixes).

Ashton is having a golden season; he’s plundered three centuries from four trips to the crease, with scores of 121no, 32, 158ret and 115 — for a total of 426 runs, at 213.

Heatherhill teenager Jesse Lenehan raised his bat for his maiden century, an unbeaten 124, against Long Island in A4.

Teammate Brad Plumridge also scored a ton, 109.

Lenehan and Plumridge shared a 118-run partnership as the Hills racked up 5-395, the highest total of the round in the MPCA.

Neil “Snapper” Hibberd was also in the runs, making 54.

ISLANDER CARRIES BAT

Long Island recruit Tom Matson battled the heat to carry his bat and make 121 not out against Baxter in MPCA Provincial.

Matson’s 228-ball stay included 10 boundaries and helped the Islanders to 5-298.

BEN’S BREAKTHROUGH CENTURY

Moorooduc’s Ben Williams broke through for his maiden First XI century, compiling 106 not out against Mt Eliza in Peninsula division.

A clip to the leg side and he had a long awaited and deserved ton.

Williams has been a consistent run scorer over the past 15 years for the Ducs, with almost 7000 runs and a stack of half centuries.

He and former New Zealand first-class player Dewayne Bowden (85) helped Moorooduc rack up 9-263 on Saturday.

EDWARDS CRACKS 120

Ty Edwards scored his first century for Balnarring, 120, against Pines in A4 grade.

The former Parkfield player put away 13 boundaries after opening the innings, helping the Saints to 5-267.

MAIDEN TON FOR ROBBO

Mt Martha teenager Cambell Robertson struck his maiden century to set up his side’s 298 against Delacombe Park in A3.

Robertson’s teammate Joshua Strawbridge fell agonisingly short of a first ton, caught by a sub-fielder for 99.

MEYERS HITS TON

Nick Meyers scored his first century for Baden Powell, a splendid 107, with 14 fours, against Rosebud in A4.

Not forgetting the bowlers...

There were some huge bowling performances in the heat in the MPCA on Saturday.

French Island skipper Ben King took 7-46 off 17 overs against Langwarrin in A1.

And Hastings’ Jonny Rumbold took 6-22 off 13 overs to rip through Delacombe Park in District 1sts.
