The pieces of the puzzle are falling into place for Dromana, which has announced several key signings for the 2023-24 MPCA season.

First they got Sorrento champion Bobby Wilson.

Now Dromana has added Baden Powell pair Zacc Klan and Beau Anthony to what is shaping as a talent-laden side in 2023-24.

The Grasshoppers’ quest to climb back up to Provincial grade after a 50-year absence is gathering momentum.

They need to win the second-tier Peninsula flag first of course, and Wilson, Klan and Anthony will certainly help their task.

Klan was a Dromana junior who went on to spearhead the Hoppers bowling attack for more than a decade.

He took the final wicket in the 2018-19 grand final as Dromana snapped a 48-year premiership drought.

After spending the past three seasons at Baden Powell, Klan returns Hopperland as senior coach for the next three seasons.

“Zacc has a determination to make every Grasshopper a better player and to get his home club into that Provincial grade pronto,” the club said.

Anthony is a hard-hitting left handed opening batsman who cracked 1400 runs in four seasons at Baden Powell, including three centuries.

The addition of Wilson, Klan and Anthony will bolster a Dromana side already boasting Sam Fowler (captain), Kierran Voelkl, Dale Irving, Adam Ciavarella and Jye Voelkl.

Dromana premiership player Luke Marotta has also returned to the Hoppers, as head of rebuilding the junior program.

Wilson has been appointed director of cricket at Dromana, to go with his job of making plenty of runs.

Wilson says he’s excited by the opportunity to help Dromana take a significant leap forward in the MPCA.

“Looking at them (Dromana) from the outside for past few years I reckon they’ve done really well to get where they are,” he said.

“I think they said they were bottom of Subbies 10 years ago so they knew they had to do something and obviously they got out of Subbies and stabilised in District and now they’re up in Peninsula.

“They said they haven’t played Provincial for over 50 years and they’ve never won a Provincial flag, so it’s a good little challenge.”
