Jamie Scully played cricket for Delacombe Park as a youngster.

And while his time in the middle was curtailed by muscular dystrophy, his passion for the game and his beloved Parkers remained.

For the past 31 years Scully has been Delacombe Park’s First XI scorer, recording the club’s greatest moments and also its struggles.

He also had long stint as the club’s secretary in the 1990s and 2000s.

Scully has been loved and appreciated by Parkers players and spectators from different generations.

And on Saturday, Scully put down the pen for the last time and walked off into the sunset.

He’s retired from scoring.

“He has never complained and only missed five games in his time,” Delacombe Park stalwart Justin Carroll said.

Fittingly, both Crib Point and DP players, as well as past players, formed a guard of honour at the completion of play on Saturday and clapped till their hands hurt, aknowledging Scully.

Better still was to come for him.

At the Max Shields medal function that night, Scully was elevated to Legend status at the club. The entire room gave him a standing ovation.

Carroll said Scully’s loyalty was legendary at Delacombe Park and it was fitting that he goes out on his terms.

He remembers watching him play as a young man.

“He didn’t play for long but I remember watching him on the soccer oval one day…he edged one through slips and everyone was going crazy,’’ Carroll said.

“He’s gone out on his terms.”

*Delacombe Park also inducted three new Life Members on Saturday night — Justin Carroll, Joel Malcolm and Rowan Charles. All are club greats, deserving of the award.
