Good form and a chance opening will see Lochlan Scott become Frankston Peninsula’s 169th First XI player today.
The 24-year-old seam bowler will take his place in the Heat attack against Northcote, continuing an eventful two months.
Scott crossed from Dandenong to Frankston Peninsula at the Christmas break in search of more opportunities.
He took 4-33 in the seconds on Saturday to put his name in front of selectors.
When Jack Conroy injured his shoulder while batting in the Heat’s firsts on Saturday, an opportunity arose — and Scott was given the nod.
“He’s been impressive in his three games since arriving so he will get an opportunity to bowl for us,” Frankston Peninsula coach Paul Boraston said.
“He’s a good competitor so it’s good for him. He runs in hard.”
Scott, a product of the Long Island Cricket Club, played two First XI games for Dandenong last season.
He started this season in the Panthers’ thirds, taking 0-30 against the Heat.
Scott will be the second debutant for Frankston Peninsula in four days after Lucas McConnell started his top grade career against Fitzroy Doncaster on Saturday.
McConnell was called up after excellent form in the seconds, including two half centuries and an average of 48.
“He’s been our most consistent batter in the twos, averaging 40 odd with a very good strike rate,” Boraston said.
“He deserved an opportunity. He’s only 18 and has a bright future.”
Frankston Peninsula lost to Fitzroy Doncaster on Saturday after another disappointing batting display.
Chasing the Lions 7-231, the Heat crashed from 1-52 to 7-107 and were dismissed for 155.
“It’s a work in progress,” Boraston said.
“On the whole the bowling has been pretty good. It’s just the batting. We need to post scores of over 200 and 220, really, which will you the majority of games.
“That’s the part of the game we are focusing on. We’ll be right.”
