Captain Braydon Hillman believes his club’s latest signing puts it “on the map”.
Growing Dandenong District Cricket Association club Berwick Springs has signed ex-Australian bat Brad Hodge for its remaining T20 fixtures.
The Titans made it through the round robin and now face Heinz Southern Districts in an elimination final on Tuesday night.
According to Hillman, Hodge, the maker of 17,084 first class runs, helps the club in its push for a piece of silverware.
“As someone who has been around the club for pretty much as long as it’s been around, we’re a pretty young club in the scheme of the DDCA,” he said.
“It’s sort of announcing ourselves I guess, not many people know much about us, but getting a name like this, it puts us out there.
“We’re not here to mess around, we want to go places across the league and I think this is a good start, we want people to know we’re a serious club and we would love to win this competition.
“It puts us on the map a bit more I guess.”
As a young captain, there’s a sense of nostalgia for Hillman, who remembers rushing home to watch his now teammate on television.
“I remember when I was younger and they used to have that one-day competition on Foxtel, the Bushrangers and all that, I remember coming home from school and watching him peel off hundreds,” he said.
“He was unlucky to be in that era because if he was around now, he would’ve played hundreds of games.”
The match between the Titans and Cobras at Berwick Springs Reserve kicks off at 5:15pm.
