What’s better than plundering the highest batting partnership in Mt Eliza Cricket Club’s 98-year history?

Doing it with your dad, according to Jordan Furhmann.

Jordan and Glen Furhmann blitzed an unbroken 369-run second wicket stand in the Mounties’ fourths on Saturday, breaking the previous club record of 344 in 2011-12 season.

They came together at 1-20 and were still going strong at 1-389 in the B1 match against Delacombe Park at Mt Eliza’s footy ground.

Jordan finished on 257 and Glen 100.

And the numbers could have been even higher; Mounties skipper John Harvey declared after 49 overs so his side could have a bowl in the last 11 overs of the day.

The Furhmanns were on fire during the prolific partnership on a hot November day.

Neither batsman gave a chance. There was one muffled leg before shout but that was about it.

Jordan cracked 37 fours and 5 sixes, while Glen sent 13 to the boundary.

“Wonderful day,’’ Jordan said.

“It’s very, very special to get to play with my dad let alone bat for that long with him.

We’ve had a fair few innings through the years and one of us has always found a way to go out so it’s actually good to stick out there for a bit.’’

The momentus partnership wasn’t without drama.

Glen, 60, twinged his knee early on but kept batting.

“I was on about a dozen, maybe 20, and I was jogging through for a single and something popped in the back of my leg,’’ Glen said.

“Jordan was like, ‘you better go off, you better go off’. I said, ‘no way, I’ll keep pushing on. There’s no chance I’m not going to be part of this’.’’

Glen labelled Jordan’s innings as a “masterful display’’.

“To be honest I was just standing up the other end enjoying the show,’’ Glen said.

“Jordan just put on an absolute show. It was awesome. I battled my heart out just to hang around with him. He did all the hard work for me.’’

Jordan, 27, was playing his first game for the season as he returns from a ruptured ACL and hamstring sustained while playing basketball 18 months ago.

Glen has played over 500 games for Mt Eliza, scoring over 13,000 runs, including 19 centuries. He said Saturday’s record-breaking day with Jordan “was definitely the highlight of my career, apart from a ones premiership’’.

Jordan was quick to pour praise on his old man, who is undoubtedly a Mt Eliza club legend.

“Of all the runs scored, the old man definitely had the shot of the day,’’ he said.

“He played the best straight drive you’ve ever seen and it nearly cleaned me and the umpire up on the way through. I think he was on about 90 at that point. He still hits a clean ball straight.’’

And there seems to be a friendly father-son rivalry as both rack up the centuries.

“I said to him yesterday, ‘every single time I get a ton and get a bit closer to you, you score another one on me’,’’ Jordan said.

“I walked up to him when I got mine yesterday and said, ‘I’m only 14 behind you now’, and an hour and half later he’s opened the gap back up.’’
