Dowling Shield: Frankston Peninsula names talent-packed squad

Frankston Peninsula has named its Under 16 Dowling Shield cricket squad. Here’s a run-down on every player — all 17 names examined.

Big on talent.

Tight-knit. Hungry for success.

Frankston Peninsula’s Dowling Shield squad is made up of the best Under 16 players from the region and, according to coach John Forrest, the young Heat side is well-equipped to succeed at the annual tournament starting on January 9.

“The group has come together really well,’’ he said.

“The camaraderie already built will definitely be a huge asset to them come carnival time.’’

Forrest added: “It’s a great group of kids. As you can see 16 of the 17 picked are from the MPCA which is our goal for this program. We want to build a better connection and provide a better experience for MPCA players to join the Heat in the years to come.’’

FRANKSTON PENINSULA SQUAD

Cooper Remy (Pines)

Talented, natural gloveman who can take the game on in the middle order with the bat. High energy personality…perfect for behind the jump. Is one of two vice captains and has next season to play as well.

David Warmbrunn (Balnarring)

Left-arm quick and top order hard hitting batsman. If he gets away, he can take the game away from the opposition very quickly.

Cody Irving (Baxter)

Quality allrounder. Probably seen more as a bowler because of his pace at such a young age but has huge potential as a top-order batsman as well. Looking forward to seeing his development.

Enrique Sidhu (Carrum Downs)

Enrique has already played a season of senior cricket with Frankston. A quality allrounder who bats top four and bowls great leg spin.

Dylan Gray (Delacombe Park)

Hits the ball like a grown man. One to watch. Left hand top order bat who has an incredible eye and hits the ball long and straight. Can bowl handy mediums and off spin…a genuine talent.

Cooper Dornan (Langwarrin)

100% team man who gives it everything. Can play multiple roles with the bat and ball. Is a talented indoor cricketer (was Vic U16 captain) and has an ability to hit the ball hard.

Jake O’Brien (Langwarrin)

Absolute character and fast bowler who bowls with a big heart. Always engaged in the battle and will be exciting to watch with the new ball.

Ben Costa (Ormond)

Has improved a lot in 12 months with some growth. Extremely consistent leg spinner who can really give it a rip

Baden Albress (Main Ridge)

All-rounder who gives it his all. Takes the game on with the bat and has the ability to score 360 degrees. Bowls some very handy medium pace as well.

Isaak Edens.

Isaak Edens (Baden Powell)

Top order bat who like many others bowls very good medium pace. Will be handy through the middle overs of a one dayer and good in the T20 format with his change of pace. Plays spin very well.

Thomas Storr (Mornington)

Talented fast bowler who is the ultimate team man. When he gets it right he’s a weapon with the new ball. Great attitude and always looking to improve.

Charlie Caldecott (Mt Martha)

Absolute gun fielder. Senses a run out like no other. Right arm leggie who consistently challenges the stumps and asks questions of the batsman. Is one of the vice captains and is a natural born leader.

Will Forrest (Old Peninsula)

Ever consistent right arm medium pacer. His slightly slower pace than some of the other pace bowlers is his asset and a point of difference. Moves the ball a lot and possesses great discipline to nag away at a length that’s hard to hit.

Oliver McGinley (Mt Eliza)

Classic looking left handed middle order bat with lovely natural timing. Right arm medium pace bowler who makes the ball talk. Incredible seam presentation and impeccable line and length. Has it all.

Leo Steenholdt (Old Peninsula)

Premium left arm off spinner. Loves a challenge and is prepared to toss it up and take the game on. Real character and team player. Super energy in the field who covers the ground quickly and always has plenty to say.

Matthew Stone (Old Peninsula)

Talented all rounder and is captain of the side. Left arm fast opening bowler and middle order hard hitting batsman. Will always take the game on with bat and ball. Exciting prospect.

Ramsubbu Ramanathan (Langwarrin)

Rama is our first emergency and unlucky not to be in the final squad. Gets better with every session and will be a quality fast bowler in the years to come. Works hard and bowls fast from ball one to ball 100.
