Footscray openers Mitchell Jamieson and Lachlan McArthur signed off from the Victorian Premier Cricket Under 16 boys series with centuries and an outstanding partnership against Greenvale Kangaroos on Sunday.

The pair put on 235, a series-best stand, with McArthur cracking 118 off 146 balls and Jamieson 107 off 140.

Both were dismissed in the late overs as the Bulldogs piled up 2-269.

They then restricted Greenvale to 9-161.

Jamieson is playing Under 16 and senior cricket with Keilor in the VTCA, and in January was part of the Under 17 Cricket Victoria western summer series.

He made 92 for Vic Metro against a CV XI.

McArthur plays for Caroline Springs in the VTCA.

Essendon also had a centurymaker, with Guntaas Brar batting through the innings against Geelong at Cross Keys Reserve.

Brar hit 6 fours and 1 six to lead the young Bombers to 3-215.

“He’s a really good prospect, really promising,’’ Essendon coach Mitchell Stephens said of the right-hander.

The Cats cracked 2-221 in the reply, achieving victory in the 45th over.

Campbell Snooks was 86 not out, completing an excellent carnival, and put on 114 with opening partner Henry Melville, who was out for 50.

Oliver Peake, 14, sped to 54 not out, with 6 fours and 1 six.

Stephens said the Under 16 series had been “awesome’’.

“I love this Dowling Shield, and it’s good that it’s with the Premier clubs, to be honest,’’ he said.

“It creates a bit of a pathway for juniors cricketers when you compare it to the YPL (Youth Premier League). That’s just my opinion.’’

Ringwood overwhelmed Fitzroy-Doncaster, totting up 6-299 and bowling over the Lions for 71.

The Rams were 3-21 but steadied and then prospered through Oliver Horlock and Flynn Smith’s fourth-wicket stand of 152.

Horlock hit 94 off 118 balls, with 9 fours and 1 six, and Smith 58 off 73. Max Sacristani (55no off 51 balls) and Tige Ridley (39 off 34) ensured there was no let-up for the Fitzroy-Doncaster bowlers.

Opener Joseph Klotz (33) played a lone hand for the Lions.

Camberwell Magpies opener Patrick Forrest hit 74 not out as his team eased past Northcote.

The Pies hit 4-141 in reply to the Dragons’ 137.

CM spinner Henry Smith was outstanding with 3-7 off 10 overs, six of them maidens.

He’s already playing Premier Cricket with the Magpies’ thirds and fourths.

Forrest is with Subbies club Balwyn and earlier in the season hit a Second XI century against Mt Waverley to earn a First XI debut.

No ladders were kept for the Under 16 series, but Melbourne went through undefeated, wrapping up the carnival with a victory over Dandenong.

Harry DeMattia’s 75 at the top of the list set up the Demons’ 273, with the right-hander putting away 4 fours and 3 sixes.

The Panthers replied with 8-197, highlighted by opener Jaskabeer Singh’s 51 and No 9 Daniel Kamil’s rattling 47 not out.

Henry Pearson took 3-32 off 10 overs and Jeremy Murray 3-29 off seven for the Dees. Spinner Harkirat Bajwa chipped in with 1-21 off his 10.

Kingston Hawthorn finished the carnival with a strong win over Richmond.

The Hawks made 154 and made it stand up by dismissing the Tigers for 110, Trae Love-Linay taking three wickets and Tyler Pearson and Oliver Peake two each.

Richmond opener Ethan de Vries was the last man out, for 53 off 101 deliveries.

Casey South Melbourne (9-182) also ended the series well, defeating Frankston Peninsula (143).

Gippslander Patrick Ireland took 3-28 for the Swannies, whose innings finished with the bang of Tom Wrigglesworth clattering 26 off eight balls, with 3 sixes at Casey Fields.

Leggie Wrigglesworth also took 2-26 off his 10 overs.

FP opener Thivi Salwathura (60) crafted his third half-century of the series.

Carlton bowled well to protect its 6-221 against Melbourne University, which was held to 6-198.

Lachlan Shinn-Mahony (54), Harrison Jamieson (47) and Tobie Travaglia (39) gave the Blues the bulk of their runs.
