Dean Williamson best-afield as East Brighton hammers Heatherton

EAST Brighton defeats Heatherton by 181 points and Dingley stays unbeaten in the Southern Football League.

A rampant East Brighton posted its biggest victory over Heatherton last Saturday when it demolished the Tunners by 181 points at Hurlingham Park.

The hapless visitors could manage just 3-0-18 for the day as the Vampires piled on 30-19-199 in a ruthless display.

Dean Williamson led the carnage for East with a best-afield effort that yielded seven goals, while Damian Lynch also booted six.

Andrew Jansen, Mitch Garvey, Matt Jamieson and Tim Gray were among the many Vampires who gathered possessions at will in what became a one-sided procession.

To their credit, the outgunned Tunners battled the game out, with Cameron Moon, Josh Dwyer and Paul Connolly soldiering on against overwhelming odds.

Nine-zip at the halfway mark of the season is as good as it gets for Dingley as the Dingoes continue to tick all the right boxes in their quest for ultimate glory this season.

Although it wasn’t all one-way traffic at Jack Barker Oval, Shane Morwood’s men were always in control and eventually coasted to a 46-point victory over a persistent Cheltenham.

Adam Stock was impressive all day for the winners, as were Jackson Peet (3 goals) and Matt Morwood, with Daniel Bolger and Jack Clausen also getting plenty of leather. Ben Fahey was again among the Rosellas’ best with another solid effort, while Pat Bolger, Jarrod Martin and Jack Barclay also toiled diligently.

East Malvern’s finals chances are still well and truly alive at the halfway mark of the season following its 26-point win over St Kilda City at Lucas Reserve.

The Panthers are sitting just outside the top five on percentage and showed plenty of spirit in Saturday’s win.

The experience of Paul de Koeyer and former coach Matt Carroll came to the fore for the hosts, with the consistent Tremaine Tohiariki again a major contributor. Clinton Johnston was active up forward for East and finished with four goals, while Simon Hislop was the Saints’ major contributor with three.

Chelsea Heights led all the way to account for Clayton by 57 points at Beazley Reserve. However, it wasn’t until after half-time that the Demons were able to make the game their own, with six goals to one in the third term confirming their dominance.
Nathan Davidson, Matt Terech and Jordan Perryman led the way for the hosts, while Ash Beasey was in vintage touch in front of the big sticks to finish with a seven-goal haul. Gabby Irons, Alex Johnston and Dion Lucas were among the few to offer stern resistance for the Clays after the long interval.

Six unanswered goals in the third quarter propelled St Paul’s to a 32-point win over Bentleigh in their derby at McKinnon Oval.

Only eight points separated the teams at the long break, but the second half belonged to the more experienced reigning premier, with Harley Ambrose, Luke James and Andy Gilbert leading the charge.

James capped another polished display with four goals, while his fellow goalsneak Travis Ridgway also bagged four. Mitch Allanby, Dale Hynes and James Robertson did best for the Demons.

In Division 2, seasoned campaigners Gav Vassallo and Clinton Brooks enjoyed a goal spree as they led Springvale Districts to an easy 84-point win over Moorabbin at Newcomen Road. After a relatively even first half that saw a modest 20-point difference at the long break, the Demons broke the game wide open with a nine-goal third quarter and never looked back. Vassallo ended with seven goals to his name while Brooks helped himself to six.

Tim Bacic and Aidan Jolly also enjoyed a day out for the winners, with ruckman Dan Wilson also prominent all day. The outclassed Kangaroos had winners in Simon Sloss, Mark Russell and Shaun Jackson.

Mordialloc had all the answers against Doveton Eagles to score by 69 points at Ben Kavanagh Reserve.

With Simon Fragiacomo and Carey Neville (3 goals) in superb touch, the Bloods pulled away in the second half to win decisively 15-14-104 to 5-5-35. Dave Marguglio and Chris Brooking were also conspicuous for the winners.

For the Eagles, Matt Fristad, Corrie Wilson and Dylan Chadwick toiled admirably. Peter Dye made the most of limited opportunities to snag three of the Eagles’ five goals for the day.

Caulfield has jumped into fourth spot with an impressive 26-point win over Murrumbeena at Murrumbeena Park.

The Bears grabbed the initiative in the second term and never allowed the Lions back into the game after half-time, with Chris Dove and Will Lacardie in everything.

Adam Connell was on fire in attack and booted five goals in a matchwinning performance.

Jason Gorman and Sean Gunning also shone for the winners, while Anthony Ekberg-Weiss played a lone hand up forward for the Lions with three goals.

Stalwart Shaun hawking and Daniel Emerson also worked hard for the hosts, who are rapidly losing touch with the top five.

Six unanswered goals in the opening quarter paved the way for Hampton’s crucial 19-point win over Oakleigh District at Peterson Street.

Although the Oaks outscored their hosts in the remaining three quarters, the damage was done and the leeway too great.

The Hammers had winners in James Feather and the busy Aaron Shedlock, while coach Chris Worner set the example up forward with four goals. Damien Armansin and Jake Timms also showed out for victors, with Anthony Lowry, Will LeMarca, Mick McCormack and Jake Mounsey among the Oaks’ leading contributors.

The win was a vital one for the Hammers as they sit just half a game outside the top five.

Skye overcame Highett by 27 points in their clash at Turner Road. The Bulldogs stuck with their bigger-bodied visitors until half-time before an eight-goal third-quarter blitz rendered further resistance irrelevant.

Daniel McEwan and Matt Doyle were the guiding forces for the Bombers, while Luke McGuinness did his job in front of goal with six majors.

Pat Singh, and Jess Elms worked hard to keep the Bulldogs in touch, while Khaled Kandakji played a lone hand up forward with four of his team’s eight goals.

In Division 3, Sandown stormed home to pinch a miraculous 11-point victory over Lyndale in a low-scoring arm-wrestle at Barry Powell Reserve.

After trailing by 11 points at half-time with just one goal on the board, the chances of victory didn’t look any brighter at the last change when the deficit had stretched to 19 points.

But amazingly, the Cobras came alive and with Jake D’Atri, Jake Chapman and Jason Toan leading the way, slammed five goals to one in a frenzied final term to grab the unlikeliest of victories, 8-12-60 to 7-7-49.

John Frenken and Nick Morrish also stood up to be counted for the visitors, while the shell-shocked Pumas were in debt to the likes of Adam Read, Taylor iris, Ben Mayers and Chris Egan for almost getting them over the line. Trevor Kumetaitis had also done his bit with four goals.

In a tussle worthy of second versus third, Carrum Patterson Lakes had to pull out all stops to overcome a belligerent Black Rock by ten points at Roy Dore Reserve.

After a neck-and-neck struggle all day, the Lions eventually prevailed 14-12-96 to 12-14-86. James Dent and ruckman Chris Barr were among those who made the difference in the end for the Lions, while’s Joel Dalton’s six goals were priceless. Paul Mauracher and Danny Graves also stood tall when it mattered for the winners, while the Jets had their share of heroes, with Jay Williams, Kelly Spratt and Rob Kugler among them. Although the loss saw the Jets drop to fourth spot, it was a game that whetted the appetite for this year’s finals series only eight games away.

Mt Waverley had far too many big guns for Dandenong in a one-sided clash at Mayfield Reserve. With Ben Beecroft, Mick Dennis and Chris Jeffries leading the way, the Mountain Lions marched to victory by 104 points, 26-17-173 to 10-9-69. Joseph Rickard was on target for the winners with five goals, while Shannon Brown, Trent Alexander and Chris Arnold battled valiantly against the odds for the Redlegs.

Ashwood grabbed the initiative in the second quarter of their battle against Endeavour Hills to prevail by 13 points at Barry Simon Reserve. Chris Myers led the way for the Magpies and finished with five goals in their 11-13-79 to9-12-66 victory. Others to show out for the winners included Tim Smith, Paul Wineberg and Mitch Saunders, while Byron Hoe, Tom Gubbins and Andrew Mitchell did best for the Falcons.

South Yarra finished all over Hallam to triumph by 22 points in a spirited clash at Fritsch Holzer Park. The Lions trailed by a point at the last change after a goal-for-goal struggle for three quarters that had yielded just seven majors.

But the final term belonged almost entirely to the Yarras has they slammed home five straight goals, thanks to inspirational contributions from Todd Hanney, Josh Gledhill, Scott Dickson and Matt Jewell, while Jordie Cellini weighed in with three goals. The Hawks were well served by Ryan Eggleston, Stefan Cosas and Andrew Daly.
