Mark it down as one of the recruiting coups of the Cricket Southern Bayside off-season.

Mentone has made it, securing Premier Cricket batsman Comrey Edgeworth.

The tall right-hander is among a number of players to have left Dandenong in the past fortnight.

Edgeworth played 18 matches for Dandy last season but was dropped for the grand final against Prahran.

He’d been with the Panthers for 10 years, making his First XI debut in 2015-16 after starting the same season in the thirds.

More opportunities came to him after he peeled off three Second XI centuries in 2017-18.

He finished with 47 matches and six half-centuries in the top team, and was a member of the White Ball premiership side in 2017-18. Edgeworth played in every grade at the club.

He admitted he was “shattered’’ to be left out of the grand final team but it wasn’t the reason he left.

“I felt like I needed a fresh start and challenge,’’ he said this afternoon.

“I’ve got a lot of mates at Mentone Cricket Club from footy (he plays with Old Mentonians in the VAFA) and I think we’re a good match.

“I loved my time at Dandenong. Lots of close mates. It has been a big part of my life, those 10 years at the club.’’

He said he left Dandenong thinking he had given Premier Cricket his all.

“When I started I thought I’d never be good enough to play in the ones.

“To play threeish seasons in the ones, I was pretty proud to achieve that. Played in some big finals with the likes of Tommy (Donnell), Brett (Forsyth), ‘Nano’ (James Nanopoulos) and obviously played in that White Ball flag. That was one of the great days when we bowled Carlton out for 50-odd.’’

Mentone reached the grand final of Division 1 last season, losing to Mordialloc in a tight, tense match.

Edgeworth was a Kingston Heath junior but he also played under-age Friday night cricket with Mentone.
