One big performance can win a T20 match, two big performances makes it a sure thing.

Like the name suggests, Chargers Cricket Club charged into the NWMCA T20 grand final on Tuesday night with a thumping 133-run victory over Tullamarine thanks to two eye-catching achievements.

After winning the toss and batting, Chargers openers Babur Nadeem and Gurpret Mohain proceeded to dispatch the bowling to all parts.

The pair put on what is surely a record 289-run partnership before Mohan fell for 77 from 50 balls.

Nadeem went on with it, smashing a stunning 188 from just 74 balls – including a ridiculous 10 boundaries and 18 sixes – to take Chargers to 2-292 from its 20 overs.

If things looked as good as they good get – or bad if you’re from Tullamarine – they only got better (worse) with the ball.

Lakhwinder Sahi took a hat-trick and finished with 6-22 to seal a mammoth win and a spot in the mid-week grand final.

Teammate and team manager Vikkas Dhingra said it was incredible to watch.

“We knew they had a good side, Tullamarine, but luckily it all came off,” he said.

“Babur went berserk, you can’t imagine, 18 sixes.

“He hit 188 and Gurpreet 77, together they had a partnership of 289.”

“Then Lucky Sahi crippled their batting.

“Their English import (Ben Wright) is a very good player and he smacked 82 it was going all over the park – and it’s not a small ground.

“After we picked up his wicket, Lucky came in and picked up six wickets.

“The hat-trick ball, the guy smacked it in the air and Babur took it single-handedly – absolutely brilliant – he came running in off the boundary 20m and just put his hand out and it stuck.”

Wright gave Tullamarine a sniff with his 30-ball demolition, hitting seven fours and sixes each, before falling to Gurmail Ghumman (2-47).

Tulla then lost 8-48 as Sahi tore through the middle order.

Chargers will now face St Francis de Sales in the grand final.

The club has rode it’s luck in getting to the decider, winning the first knockout game on Duckworth-Lewis after smashing 2-174 in 11 overs in pursuit of Darebin Chargers’ 9-255.

It then scored a colossal 4-289 against Gladstone Park as Nadeem hit 88 from 34 balls and Dhingra clocked 92 from just 27 deliveries – including 12 sixes.

Chargers snuck through to the quarter-finals and faced undefeated East Coburg, snatching a heart-stopping one-run victory that went down to the final ball of the match.

The club’s last two wins has it feeling good about its grand final chances.

“These two teams we’ve defeated, they’re good sides especially when they play in the NWMCA, and St Francis poses another difficulty,” Dhingra said.

“We’ll see if we can clear the final hurdle but our team is in high spirits because we’ve won the last two games very excitedly.”

St Francis de Sales booked its grand final ticket with a seven-wicket win over Altona Sports, chasing down 7-157 in just 11.1 overs.

Vaughan Garner scored 80 from 51 balls for Altona but the underdogs couldn’t stop Saints pair Tom Robertson (62 from 24) and Aaron Maynard (46 not out from 18) from chasing down the goal with ease.
