It was a spectacular start to Round 5 in the Casey Cardinia Cricket Association on Saturday.

Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll D Grade opening bowler Ash “Tower” Bailey had a day most can only dream about when he captured 9-14, including a hat-trick, against Cardinia.

Bailey, who had taken only one wicket in his previous four games this season, grabbed the first six wickets to fall before teammate Ryon Tocknell took the seventh.

Bailey then took the next three poles to finish with figures of 12 overs, six maidens, nine wickets for 14 runs. Cardinia was dismissed for 43.

Surprisingly, it wasn’t a club record.

“It’s not actually, there were a few questions asked around the club about that,’’ Nar Nar Goon-Maryknoll president and secretary Nick Mueller said.

“A bloke got a 10-for way back in a different era.’’

Bailey, a tall man who delivers the ball from a great height and swings it, is known for demolishing batting line ups. In 2018, he took 8-49 against Merinda Park and he also boasts a seven-fa.

Mueller said “Tower’’ was a popular figure at the Gooners.

“Tower has been at the club for a long time now and he’s a bit of a club legend,’’ he said.

“He’s a very loved figure at the club and all the boys have tremendous respect for him.’’

In other eye-popping bowling displays on the weekend, Officer D Grade captain Steve Pursell captured career-best figures of 7-23 off 13 overs against Pakenham.

Officer’s Shane White took 6-34 in A Grade and Pakenham master blaster Dale Tormey had a day out with the ball, nabbing 6-37 off 19.4 overs to hep dismiss Officer for 163 in Premier.

Tormey can thank his star wicketkeeper Rob Elston, who had a brilliant day behind the stumps, taking six catches and not conceding a bye.

Runs flowed as heavily as the recent rain, with Koo Wee Rup captain Luke McMaster blitzing 193 — his maiden century — against Clyde in Premier division. His 208-ball stay included 24 fours and 5 sixes and powered his side to a mountainous 321.

Meanwhile, McMaster’s Koo Wee Rup club mate Brent Evans carried his bat to make 197no in D Grade. A week after being stumped for 96, Evans took out his frustration on the hapless Clyde bowling attack, cracking 25 boundaries in a 213-ball stay as the Demons racked up 6-362. Evans shared a frenetic 212-run sixth wicket partnership with Adam Wilkinson (93).

There was a big score in B Grade, with Clyde skipper Josh Spittal blasting 134no, with 80 of his runs coming in boundaries.
