Sam Coates scored his fourth century for Beaumaris and went past 2000 runs for the club as the Sharks capped off an outstanding home and away season on Saturday.

Coates made 102 off 103 balls (11 boundaries) to propel the Sharks to 7-185 off 40 overs against Parkdale at Gerry Green Reserve.

He shared a 111-run opening partnership with Aidan Fulcher (31 off 75).

In reply, Parkdale lost its skipper Dale Elmi early when he was run out for four and never looked likely as it was shot out for 55, sealing its relegation fate after a disappointing season.

Beaumaris’ bowling unit was outstanding, led by Michael Mackenzie, who captured 4-16 off eight overs.

He has taken seven wickets in his past two games.

Cameron Watts (2-10) and Jonathan Leadbeater (2-0) were also in the wickets, while James Miller (0-7 off five overs) also bowled beautifully.

Coates has been superb at Beaumaris since crossing from Prahran. In four seasons with the Sharks he’s scored 2041 runs, at an average of 43.43.

Beaumaris finished in second spot and will go into finals in good shape.
