Batsmen blast off in MPCA with 10 centuries and a double ton

There were some big scores in the Mornington Peninsula association, with 10 centuries and a double ton being recorded. See the high achievers.

Tyabb batsman Harry Capes was in a hurry on Saturday, smashing an unbeaten double century in an MPCA A3 one-day match against Delacombe Park.

Opening the innings, the 21-year-old blitzed 19 fours and 14 sixes and reached his 200 in the last over of the innings, walking off 201 not out in a team total of 4-298.

It was a day of batting brilliance at Tyabb, with club stalwart Brad Hodgins blasting his second century of the summer.

He made 102 (with 18 fours) as the Yabbies chased down Carrum Downs’ 226 in B2, with Jai Gleeson just as impressive with 72no (4 fours, 6 sixes).

Paul Nelson smashed a straight six with three balls to go to secure a five-wicket victory for Tyabb’s First XI over Rye.

It was one of three sixes by Nelson, who finished 42no off 31 balls, while Jarrod White made 57.

Langwarrin’s Adam Richmond plundered his fourth century as runs flowed at Cyril Fox Reserve in Crib Point.

Richo put away 16 fours and 2 sixes on his way to 131 in the A1 match against Cribby. His big day included a 69-run partnership with his son Josh (31) and a 159-run stand with Stuart Bath (76no).

Matt Whelan smacked his eighth century for Tootgarook in a thrilling top of the table contest against Balnarring in Sub District 1sts.

The hard-hitting left hander cracked an unbeaten 121 (6 fours, 9 sixes) in a total of 3-214.

But Balnarring produced a rousing run chase to run down the target with seven wickets and six overs to spare.

Whelan is having a golden summer, with 374 runs at 53.

Jason Mathers is like a fine wine - he’s getting better and better.

The 49-year-old made 113 in Mt Martha’s seconds, his third ton in the past two seasons since returning to the Reds.

Wade Pelzer peeled off his ninth century for Old Peninsula as the Pirates went down to Sorrento in a Provincial thriller.

Chasing 214, the Pirates lost regular wickets and were all out for 201, despite Pelzer’s top-drawer 112 after he’d batted most of the innings.

Seafood Tigers seconds batsman Aaron Mountney scored a superb 108 (17 fours, 1 six) in a losing cause against Heatherhill.

Baden Powell hurry master Beau Anthony smashed 107 to power the Braves to a resounding win over Long Island in Provincial 2nds.

It was only the left hander’s second match this season; he cracked 67 in the previous round.

With Anthony in full flight, Baden Powell, in reply to Long Island’s 7-186, rushed to 2-187 off 30 overs.

Putting away 10 sixes, Troy Robinson sped to his first century for Sorrento in B3.

Robinson went in at 3-92 and was dismissed at 6-225, having blasted 106.

Boneo seconds opener Xavier Miller scored a brilliant maiden century to set up the Pandas win over Ballam Park.

Miller’s 105 came off 117 balls and included 16 boundaries.

He and Ryan Jellie (60) shared a 137-run opening partnership.

Mornington’ Neil Williams batted beautifully to make 102 9 fours, 1 six) against Langwarrin in A2.
