Basketball Australia announces under 17 and 19 training camp squads

A large number of Victorians are set to battle it out for a place on Australian underage basketball teams this month. Here is who has earned an invitation to national team training.

Victoria’s best young basketballers are set to battle it out for the chance to pull on the green and gold in the coming weeks.

Basketball Australia has invited 105 players from across the country to the Centre of Excellence in Canberra for several junior national squad camps.

The camps are being used as preparation for upcoming underage championships throughout the year.

Among the players to have earned a place in the camp are Jensen Bradtke, the son of Basketball Australia Hall of Famer and four-time Olympian Mark and elite tennis player, Nicole.

Tess Heal, who is the niece of Shane and cousin of Opal Shyla, will compete for a place in the women’s under 19 team.

Melbourne United assistant coach Justin Schueller will mentor the under 17 men’s team who will compete at the FIBA Asia Under 17 Cup in June.

Meanwhile, the under 17 women’s team, coached by Tracy York the head coach of the Bendigo Spirit in the WNBL, will ramp up preparations for FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers in June before a potential World Cup a month later.

The under 19s men’s and women’s squad are heading to Canberra for a three-day training camp/

David Herbert will coach the women and Robbie McKinlay will lead the men.

Under 17 women: Amy Kurkowski (Sandringham), Edie Clarke (Melbourne), Sienna Harvey (Geelong United), Sarah Portlock (Broadmeadows), Kyra Webb (Sale/Casey), Georgia McBean (Kilsyth), Isabel Whitelaw (Shepparton/Hawthorn).

Under 19 men: Jensen Bradtke (COE/Sandringham), Jackson Harding (Knox), Darcy Jones (Knox), Chol Machot, AJ Magbegor (Diamond Valley), Daniel Poelsma (Diamond Valley).

Under 19 women: Dyani Anaiev (Wyndham/Seymour), Tanielle Knight (Wyndham), Dallas Loughridge (COE/Warragul), Sophie Burrows (Diamond Valley), Amy O’Hara (Keilor), Holly Griffiths (Bulleen), Nyadiew Puoch (COE/Dandenong), Tess Heal (Bulleen).
