You Are Not Alone

Commuters experienced major disruptions on western metropolitan and some regional train lines after an incident at South Kensington railway station on Thursday.

PTV issued an alert about 12.30pm detailing changed travel arrangements for the Werribee and Williamstown lines, with buses replacing trains between North Melbourne and Newport on Thursday afternoon and passengers advised to allow up to an hour extra for their journeys.

Coaches replaced V/Line trains on the Ballarat Line between Southern Cross and Caroline Springs, the Bendigo Line between Southern Cross and Sunbury, and the Geelong Line between Southern Cross and Sunshine, with passengers on these lines asked to allow up to 90 minutes extra for their journeys.

It is understood a man in his 30s was injured in an incident involving a train and was unresponsive when emergency services were notified.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics were called to the scene about 11.30am but a spokesperson declined to release further details.

Police confirmed there had been a “self-harm incident” at the station but declined to release further details.

A PTV spokesperson said services would resume “when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so”.

The VicRoads signals team monitored conditions and adjusted traffic lights as needed to facilitate bus movements near Southern Cross Station and through the inner western suburbs.

At 3pm Thursday, PTV announced V/Line train services were resuming on the Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong lines.

Metropolitan train services on the Werribee and Williamstown lines had resumed normal service including stops at South Kensington.

Passengers were asked to continue allowing extra time for their journeys as trains got back into position for the normal timetable.
