Disruptions after person hit by V/Line train at South Kensington

COMMUTERS face severe disruptions after a person was hit by a V/Line train at South Kensington.

COMMUTERS face severe disruptions after a person was hit by a V/Line train at South Kensington, Victoria.

A Queensland man in his 20s is at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries after what is believed to be an attempted suicide.

V/Line services to and from Geelong have been suspend in both directions, while Metro is running buses between Newport and North Melbourne after the man was struck about 8.15am.

Trains on the Sydenham line are also delayed as are V/Line services to Ballarat and Bendigo, which are running at least 15 minutes behind.

A Geelong-bound train with about 400 people on board is stuck between South Kensington and Footscray.

V/Line spokesman Daniel Moloney said the man was hit by an empty 8am train travelling to Geelong.

"That’s a pretty busy part of the network because several lines come together," Mr Moloney said.

"The first priority is looking after the driver who hit the man and the second is looking at how we can help people on the stranded train."

Police are at the scene.
