Encouraged to “just enjoy” playing on the beautiful Coburn Oval at Jubilee Park, Frankston Peninsula’s under 18 female side put on a batting masterclass on Tuesday.

Jemma Reynolds peeled off her maiden century, a chanceless 101 retired not out, off only 74 balls, against Camberwell Magpies.

And Montana Phillips joined the run feast with 85 off 100 balls as the Heat piled up 6-291 off 45 overs.

Grace Barnes (15), Limansa Thilakarathna (12), Kelsey Perry (12no) and Stella Appleford (13no) also chipped in to give 300 a nudge.

The batting brilliance set up a resounding victory in the first of two games in the Victorian Premier Cricket Female Under 18 (Tier 2) Competition.

Frankston Peninsula meets Camberwell Magpies again on Thursday.

Reynolds and Phillips both play for Dandenong’s seconds in Premier Cricket as well as for Langwarrin.

Frankston Peninsula girls coach Cam Price said Reynolds and Phillips were in total control and looked a class above.

He said Reynolds’ innings was highlighted by an array of “wonderful” cover drives.

“Every bad ball, she just whacked it,” Price said.

“It’s actually a good standard.

“It just shows you what sort of talent we’ve got on the Peninsula.

“I think a lot of the teams up in the city go, ‘the Peninsula, we’ll smack them’, but the girls have really played well.”

The Heat under 18s include five girls who played under 15 YPL with the Sharks last week.

Price encouraged his side to enjoy the day.

“I just said to the girls, ‘you are playing on this beautiful ground, on a beautiful turf wicket’,” he said

“You don’t get to do this often where you see your name up on the scoreboard. Just enjoy it. It’s just a good experience.”

Reynolds is also a promising footballer with the Stingrays.

The Heat side’s youngest player Shenali Fernando is also an exciting cricket talent.
